Get The Details

Reverse painting image transfers on a gel plate can be one of the most rewarding—and frustrating—techniques we work with. This 6-week challenge is designed to help Gelli plate artists slow down, experiment, compare approaches, and learn from one another in a supportive, low-pressure way.

The Reverse Painting Gel Print Challenge invites artists to work from the same set of images and explore how differently each of us interprets and approaches the same starting point. There’s no “right” result here—only process, discovery, and shared learning.

How It Works

Participants will receive a free bundle of 20 instantly downloadable, high-resolution image transfers from Gel Inspirations, available directly from the Gel Inspirations website.

Your challenge is to use only images from this free bundle to explore reverse painting on your gel plate. How you interpret, layer, modify, or combine them is entirely up to you. Then share your work with us in the Gel Inspiration Community on Facebook.

Seeing how many different outcomes come from the same starting images is where the real learning happens.

Image transfers for every level and a wide range of styles are included in your free download.

Why the Challenge?

This is a Gel Inspirations Community learning event for Gelli plate artists who want to:

  • Start or practice their reverse painting techniques.
  • See how others approach the same images.
  • Share successes, failures, and questions.
  • Learn through real examples, not perfection.

Participation is for fun, feedback, and creative growth—not competition.

Steps to Participate

  1. Download the Reverse Painting Challenge Image Bundle from GelInspirations.com starting Dec. 26th. The free code will appear in the popup.
  2. Create at least one reverse-painted piece using an image from the bundle.
  3. Post your work, approach &/or questions in the Gel Inspirations Community Group on Facebook.
  4. Participate in discussions

NOTE: You will need either a home printer or the ability to have designs printed in high resolution elsewhere (office store, friends, at work when the boss is not looking (haha), etc.).

Your posts can include:

  • Finished artwork
  • Work-in-progress images
  • Experiments that didn’t work
  • Biggest Oops! “What went way wrong?”
  • And all your questions

All are welcome. Sharing is how we learn.

Thank-You Gift for Participants

Each participant who posts at least one artwork using the free bundle will receive a free Gel Inspirations digital transfer bundle of their choice as a thank-you for contributing to the community.

This is based on the honor system. You’re welcome to download the free bundle and not participate—but we hope you’ll join in so we can all learn from one another.

Gift codes will be sent via Facebook Messenger to active participants within a few days of their first creative post.
